Grand 'ol Fourth

Elvis sighting at the parade

The biggest spider I've ever seen (except for the tarantula I saw in Australia). It came out of the wood pile while we were having a bonfire.

Seems like we are finally doing the summer thing. The warm weather arrived in time to celebrate the 4th of July. It's a pretty big deal around here; a street party dowtown the night before, and then tons and tons of activities on the 4th, including the very exciting parade. We only do the parade, as it's right at the kids' nap time, and just that exhausts us. I can't imagine partaking in all of the other festivities (pancake breakfast, marathon, pony rides, bouncy houses, put put golf, art booths, baseball game, etc.) and actually surviving. To say the kids love the parade is an understatement. There is more candy to be had then halloween; of course, we let them have a few pieces, then throw the rest away. Then, Daddy buys fireworks and we set them off after dinner. We also like to make a bonfire and roast marshmallows and let the kids stay up late.

Other news on the homefront is that I applied for a graphic design job. I wish I didn't have to be looking into this now, but times have been a bit tight (Keith's business is directly influenced by the economy) and we need to explore all possibilities. I've been out of the loop for too long, so I'm probably not the best candidate, but it's for an amazing company right here on the island. It's called IslandWood; it's an outdoor school offering programs to all kinds of people and especially to inner-city kids. So… I'll find out in the next few weeks if there is an opportunity there for me. It's also a full-time job, which we don't want me to do yet, so we'll just see what happens.

  1. Who's behind those Foster Grant's??? So cute! Move over, Simone and Amelia - I'll be over to use the slip-n-slide if it gets too hot!
